Whew!! What a Holiday!

I don't know about you, but this past week has wiped me out!! I can't wait to get back to "normal"....or whatever normalcy I can find during the month of December!!

Last week was my wonderful hubby's birthday and we surprised him with a house full of balloons and streamers when he arrived home from a business trip! He loved it...even if his cake fell and looked like a volcano erupted! But boy was it YUMMY!!

Then Thursday was Thanksgiving and we have a wonderful day full of family time. I cooked a nice meal and, for once, did not make enough food to feed an army! We are actually finished with all the leftovers now!

Over the weekend I actually put up Christmas lights on my house! First time in 10 years! My daughter loves it and I get a huge smile on my face every time I look at them shining through my window! It's going to be a great holiday! I even finished my yarn ball wreath and have it hanging on the front door.

So, December will be bringing Christmas parties, birthday parties, and lots of family time! But first I need to finish up my crochet gift list and make some new items for my tree. I hope you all had a wonderful holiday too!!

Plus Size Fashions Blog Tour with Jill Hanratty & Giveaway

Oh my! I am so excited to be a part of this awesome Blog tour and to tell you about this great new crochet pattern book by Jill Hanratty!

I completely fell in love with the designs in this book!! Even though I do not wear plus size clothing anymore -Yay Me!- the majority of my family does. And I am always on the lookout for awesome designs that I can make for them. And this book didn't let me down!! Jill pays such close attention to details like shaping and necklines. I'm sure you won't be disappointed either!

I had the pleasure of interviewing Jill about her book and specifically the Lightning Shell Jacket design made with Classic Elite Cotton Bam Boo yarn. Here is what she had to say:

-What made you decide to create fashions for the plus-sized woman?

The demand for plus size crochet patterns prompted a design call which caught my interest. Here was an opportunity to create a collection of timeless wardrobe staples in plus sizes! Usually, I am drawn to designing simple patterns with practicality in mind. Because I also crochet clothes for myself, I recognize that it is an investment of time to make each piece, so to me it is important for the design to have longevity. I also like to crochet things that can be worn frequently—basics that can be worn effortlessly and often, but always look good. I suspect that, regardless of size, we all have moments when we think, “I could really use a jacket in [this color or that color]”—to be able to make just what you want is great!

-What would you consider the hardest part of designing for plus-sized women?

Getting a flattering fit is the trickiest part—but that is the challenge for all sizes! As far as style goes, I do not think of plus size women as having different wants than anyone else—everyone likes clothes that fit well, are comfortable and look good on! As far as construction goes, I keep in mind that a neckline should be neither too constrictive nor too loose. The same goes for armholes—they need to be comfortable without being ridiculously large. I have also noticed that the matter of an inch or two in length can make a big difference in how flattering or unflattering a top or jacket looks when worn. It seems that many women have a tendency to try to cover everything, and that is not always the most flattering thing to do!

-I love the lighter colored accent trim on the Lightning Shell Jacket. What inspired it?

Thanks! Once I get rolling and in the rhythm of the stitch pattern, I like to be able to crochet without giving it too much thought! With this pattern, I loved that changing the color for just one row while maintaining the same stitch made such an impact! By the time you are crocheting the trim, you have the flow of the pattern in mind and can just sail along and crochet!

-I like to imagine a famous star wearing my designs. Who would you love to see wearing a Lightning Shell Jacket?

I have actually never even considered that! I usually just envision the designs on women in general, not a particular person! I get a kick out of Kirstie Alley’s exuberance, so it would be nice to see her wearing the Lightning Shell Jacket, or any other of the designs for that matter!

***a note from me...I think this jacket would look stunning in Raspberry Sorbet with Lemon Ice trim on Kirstie Alley!***

-Is there anything special you'd like crocheters to know about this pattern before they start making it?

The shells look so beautiful to me as I look at the photograph on the model! Because the shells are on a diagonal, your work may slant as you crochet in rows (less obvious when working in rounds). This will straighten out with assembly and blocking.

I'd like to thank Jill for allowing me to interview her and Annie's Attic for choosing me to be one of the hosts for this fabulous blog tour! If you've missed the previous stops, be sure to check them out:

What I'm Working on Wednesday

Happy Wednesday!! I hope you are all having a wonderful week. The weather has turned colder here in Western Colorado and we had our first light snowfall this week. It's perfect crocheting weather!!

So, on my hook right now....I've picked back up my Mr. Stretchy by Designing Vashti. I've also been whipping up a few hats for a local charity fundraiser...Handmade Hats for Hospice. I'll also be donating the sample Fun and Funky Half Hats from the November 2010 issue of Crochet! Magazine. And in between all of these, I am working on a new design for magazine publication, plus I have a few custom orders to fill! Whew!!

EEEAK!! I also need to get ready for my hubby's birthday and Thanksgiving next week! OH...and we are decorating the Christmas Tree differently this year and are actually going to have a theme!! So guess what that means?? I need to make lots of fun stuff to put on it!! Looks like I am going to be super busy for the next few weeks!!!

OK, guess that means I need to get off the computer and get my hands to crocheting!! Be sure to stop back tomorrow for my day to host the Plus Sized Fashions Blog tour with Jill!

What I'm Working on Wednesday

Good morning and Happy Wednesday!!! I hope you all are having a wonderful week!!

I've been a little busy with household stuff lately, but I am starting to get back to my crochet projects. One of my goals this year is to wear more crocheted items...and since the weather is getting colder here, now is the perfect time. So, this week I whipped myself up a basic black beanie and attached a fun little white thread skull to the front. I also made a similar one for my husband. It's a fun little accessory to throw on when my hair is a mess...plus it's keeping my head warm!!

I'm also working on a new design for publication and I am looooooving the fun colors of it!! I'll be sharing a sneak peek once I finish. I also have one more design in my head that I need to create in the next week or so.

Also, stay tuned to my blog next week when I will be one of the blog tour hosts for a new Annie's Attic pattern book called Plus Sized Fashions!! I'm really excited about this! I got to interview the author and I can't wait to share some of the awesome designs with all of you!

OK, time to get back to work! Have a great day everyone.

What I'm Working on Wednesday

Absolutely nothing, LOL!!

I've caught up on all my work and am taking a small break from crocheting. Other then putting a few finishing touches onto a hat for my wonderful hubby, I don't have anything on my hook right now.

I did just wind up some hanks of Blue Sky Alpacas Worsted Cotton yarn for a new project, but I probably won't be starting it for another day or so. The colors are beautiful and I can't wait to work with it!

That's about it. I can't believe it is November already! Where did this year go? You know what...I better get to work on some Christmas projects soon!!!

Have a great day!

Picture Share!

As promised! Here are some photos for you of things I have been working on.
First is my Halloween costume. I made myself a witch hat fascinator, LOL!! It was a small, crocheted witch hat decorated with ribbon, tulle, and a skull button. All attached to one of my daughters headbands. I thought it turned out really cute!

Here is Kathryn's costume that I helped with. I crocheted her a kitty cat ears onto a headband, made a crocheted tail and attached some crocheted stripes to a plain turtleneck. She loved it!

And here is my daughter Heather in her Dalmation costume. Felt circles were glued onto a plain white sweatsuit and crocheted hat with ears. It also has a crocheted tail and fun crocheted red collar that read "Dot."

And last is my Debra sweater from the book "Crochet it. Love it. Wear it!" by Drew Emborsky. I probably should have made a size large instead of the medium, but I really like it!

Hope you all enjoy the pictures!
